Once upon a time, a legendary tale unfolds as Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva journeyed to earth from the majestic Kailash. They stumbled upon a grand temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and decided to take a break. Goddess Parvati proposed a game of dice to Lord Shiva at the temple’s sight which captivated them for hours.

Upon the game’s end, the Priest declared Lord Shiva as the victor but Goddess Parvati emerged triumphant. Enraged by the Priest’s error, Goddess Parvati cursed him with leprosy. The Priest wandered until he met celestial beings who advised him to observe the Solah Somvar Vrat for 16 Mondays which miraculously cured him.

Impressed by the Priest’s healing, Goddess Parvati undertook the vrat herself and reunited with her son Kartikeya on the 16th day. This miraculous event led to the inception of the Sawan Somwar Vrat Katha in remembrance of this extraordinary occurrence.
